Carolyn Weisz

I have taught at the University of Puget Sound, a 4-year liberal arts university, for 20 years. My current research interests include social perception, racism, and homelessness. Most recently, I have conducted research on homelessness in collaboration with other scholars and with the Pierce County Department of Community Connections. These studies focus on links between stigma, psychological distress, and physical health; racial disparities in homelessness; trauma; smoking; emotional labor among service providers; and organizational diversity climate. I serve on the leadership team of the University’s Race and Pedagogy Initiative, which stages a national conference on the University of Puget Sound Campus every four years and other events to achieve equity in education in the South Puget Sound region.

I received my BA at Stanford University in 1987 and my MA and PhD from Princeton University in 1989 and 1992, respectively. Before joining the faculty at the University of Puget Sound, I also completed a National Institute of Drug Abuse Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, and served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of California, Davis, and the California School of Professional Psychology.
